Recovery

Recovery times vary from patient to patient but typically entail around 2 weeks of rest. Patients are encouraged to walk right away after surgery around 3 times a day, as this enhances circulation and helps to minimize the risk of complications such as clotting. Showering is permitted after 48 hours, and normal household activities can be completed by days 3-5. Any drains placed to remove excess fluids from the body will be removed within 7 days. Dr. Burgdorf believes in extensive follow-up and he will see patients at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months post-op.
