Have you considered having a Mommy Makeover? There are so many things to consider before having any type of surgery, but aesthetic procedures tend to have their own specific considerations. If you need to have your gallbladder out, there is no need for explanation to friends or family about why you’re making the decision to have surgery.

MEDICAL NECESSITY VS. ELECTIVE SURGERY

Most patients feel that a surgery based on medical necessity is not an option, and it is widely accepted socially.

Many moms feel selfish having a surgery for cosmetic reasons, and some worry about what their friends, neighbors, church members, coworkers, etc. will think of them. Will they think I’m vain? Will they say I’m wasting money?

One thing I have learned in my years of working is that the decision to have surgery has to be yours and yours alone. There will be some who don’t approve. You’re not having surgery for them. What matters is how you feel when you look in the mirror every day. And if perkier breasts, fuller breasts, a flatter tummy, less stretch marks (or whatever your motivation for having surgery may be) makes you happier and more confident, then that is all that matters.

Some other things to consider are scheduling adequate time off work or coordinating help with the kids while you recover. As a mom it’s hard to take time for yourself, but it’s so important that you do so that you are able to heal more quickly and fully. Our Patient Care Coordinator can help you work through these questions and even coordinate care for you after surgery if you like. While all of these questions are important to consider before having surgery, your focus should remain on the positive aspect of making a change that makes you happy. This is a rewarding experience for you and those you love!

I came across this article on RealSelf.com titled “10 Things I Wish I’d Known Before a Mommy Makeover” and I thought it was so well written and made some really great points.

This is not a patient of our practice, but I thought it would be helpful to patients considering a mommy makeover; especially those having a difficult time figuring out what to tell the children, etc. We hope you enjoy this article and hope you’ll utilize your Patient Care Coordinator to help you with all those questions and planning for a stress-free surgical experience.
