Patients Love the MemoryGel Xtra Breast Implants in Nashville Difference

You may have heard of implants that use Mentor’s revolutionary silicone gel described as “gummy bear” implants because of its highly “cohesive” nature. This term specifically refers to the silicone gel’s unique ability to retain a stable shape over time, similar to the smooth, firm texture of the iconic gummy shaped candies.

Both patients and practitioners prefer MemoryGel implants because these properties most closely match the look and feel of natural breast tissue.

In the past, the option for women who wanted more upper breast volume for enhanced cleavage was to simply use a bigger overall size implant. However, Dr. Burgdorf recognizes that many of his patients seeking breast augmentation do not necessarily want the heavy, oversized look of yesterday’s “watermelon” type implants. The engineered design of MemoryGel Xtra implants features the ability to project the upper breast with higher fill volume – while maintaining a smaller diameter at the base of the implant to more closely fit the patient’s chest wall.

The extraordinary properties of Mentor’s patented MemoryGel Xtra allow for the well-proportioned, natural looking shapes and “perk” that women want for breast augmentation or reconstruction. In addition, MemoryGel Xtra breast implants in Nashville are available with two options to suit your personal preference: moderate plus and high profile.

This is a 38 year old slender patient who had a previous breast augmentation with saline implants in early 2000’s. She felt that her saline implants were heavy and she did not like where they sat on her chest. We used 335cc Mentor Memorygel High Profile Xtra to maintain her cup size and projection and utilized galaflex to achieve an internal breast lift.

What Is the Galaflex Scaffold in Nashville, TN?

Also known as the “internal bra”, this “next generation” supportive lattice made from naturally occurring biopolymers holds your breast implants securely in place. Biopolymers? If you recall high school biology class, a polymer is simply a group of molecules or the building blocks that make up the body’s tissues. In the field of medicine, these strong, synthetic polymers have been long used to produce dissolvable sutures and in many medical applications and devices.

galaflex scaffold before & after

The Galaflex scaffold in Nashville, TN is approved by the FDA for plastic and reconstructive surgery – is made from an enhanced “super” biopolymer known as P4HB. This remarkable compound is surgically placed by Dr. Burgdorf to secure and support the breast implants as your body heals AND as the breast’s surrounding soft tissues are naturally repaired and replaced. Once the surgical area is fully healed, the Galaflex scaffold simply breaks down into carbon dioxide and water.  These are then reabsorbed into the bloodstream, leaving behind tissue that is stronger than before.

Galaflex Scaffold for the Optimal Surgical Outcome

In addition to its ability to effectively reinforce the soft tissues and hold implants in place during the healing process, the Galaflex scaffold has many other benefits, including…

  • The reinforcing scaffold made from these rugged P4HB polymers actually makes the breast’s soft tissues 5-10 times stronger, which means more successful, long-lasting outcomes
  • The Galaflex scaffold in Nashville, TN has magnified durability properties, which means that the material doesn’t break down and become reabsorbed before your tissues are fully repaired and healed – making this proprietary scaffolding product ideally suited for many medical applications
  • Less external scarring due to the polymer’s enhanced ability to support and strengthen the breast tissues
  • Its low bacterial occurrence –unlike previously manufactured surgical scaffolds – decreases the risk of infection
  • The material’s highly elastic and pliable properties mean that the scaffold is available in many shapes and sizes to work with your unique body shape

Top 5 Career-Boosting Plastic Surgery Procedures https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/top-5-career-boosting-plastic-surgery-procedures/ https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/top-5-career-boosting-plastic-surgery-procedures/#respond Thu, 05 Oct 2017 20:55:22 +0000 http://michael-burgdorf.amsystem.wpengine.com/?p=592 In today’s competitive job market, looking tired, stressed or older than your years can significantly impact the trajectory of your career. Though your looks may not affect your job performance directly (although, a boost in self-confidence does wonders!), your appearance is proven to influence how others perceive and interact with you in the workplace, even possibly determining your salary. That’s when plastic surgery comes into play.

And, if you’re one of the increasing numbers of Americans choosing to continue working well past the traditional retirement age, it’s more important than ever to look and feel your best to successfully compete with younger generations. That’s why so many professionals today are turning to plastic surgery to refresh their appearance and give their careers a much-needed boost. [Disclaimer: Results are not guaranteed for all patients, as outcomes and experience will vary based on each unique, individual person.]

If you feel like your appearance—and career—could use a little rejuvenation, consider these five plastic surgery procedures ideal for men and women alike:

Facelift

For those looking to virtually “turn back the clock,” a facelift—whether performed alone or combined with other procedures—may be for you. In addition to making sagging facial skin appear more taught and youthful, a facelift can also address loose neck skin, jowls and those pesky crease lines around the nose, mouth and chin that often make us appear much older than we feel.

Eyelid Lift

Our eyes are often the first feature people notice about us; and if yours appear droopy or sleepy, they could be holding you back in both your professional and personal life. If your eyes could use a little “brightening,” consider an eyelid lift, plastic surgery meant to make you appear more rested and alert by treating loose skin, wrinkles, puffiness and bags around your eyes.

Rhinoplasty

If the size and shape of your nose is distracting to others or detracting from your own self-assurance, a rhinoplasty (aka “nose job”) addresses nose size, shape, width and symmetry with the goal of improving your profile. Whether you’ve had a lifelong struggle with the appearance of your nose, or it’s the result of a more recent injury, a rhinoplasty can provide the career-boosting confidence you need by bringing harmony and balance to your features.

Breast reduction

A breast reduction is a common and valuable plastic surgery procedure for women and men! For the large percentage of men who suffer from gynecomastia (enlarged breasts), a breast reduction can empower you to take your career to the next level. Imagine power suits simply fitting better, knowing you look just as good as the rest of the 20-somethings in the boardroom, and even wearing cotton shirts on the golf course without hesitation.

For women, a breast reduction is not only a matter of improving their appearance, but of reducing physical discomfort, including back, neck and shoulder pain from the weight of overly large breasts. In these cases, the goal of a breast reduction surgery would be to improve your comfort and enjoyment of daily life, in addition to your figure and self-confidence.

Kybella®

The new kid on the block, Kybella® is not surgery but an injectable treatment that actually destroys fat cells under the chin with the goal of diminishing your double chin and improving your profile. Kybella® is considered a “lunchtime procedure” that offers similar, long-lasting results to liposuction without the same recovery downtime—an especially important consideration for today’s professionals.

Bonus: Botox®

While we’re talking about injectables, I can’t forget Botox®! Perhaps the most popular appearance-enhancing choice of modern professionals, Botox® offers a range of career-boosting benefits, such as the ability to perform under pressure without signs of anxiousness, reduction in sweating and a more youthful and rejuvenated look.

When Should I Start Botox Treatments? https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/start-botox-treatments/ https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/start-botox-treatments/#respond Thu, 28 Sep 2017 15:06:50 +0000 http://michael-burgdorf.amsystem.wpengine.com/?p=588

Instagram. Snapchat. Facebook. Twitter. Welcome to “selfie culture,” a social-media-fueled phenomenon that has younger and younger generations today fixated on their appearance like never before. For preventive purposes, many are turning to cosmetic procedures such as Botox at ages previously unheard of, raising the question: how young is too young for Botox treatments?

The short answer is there are no age laws in the U.S. limiting who can get Botox and fillers, though any patient under age 18 requires parental consent. In my practice at Music City Plastic Surgery, I personally recommend starting no earlier than mid 20s, when pesky wrinkles and fine lines may first start to rear their ugly heads. But the long answer is a little more complicated—here’s what you need to know:

What is Botox?

Botox is botulinum toxin type A, the most widely used and most effective cosmetic injectable in the world, which temporarily suspends facial muscle movement to help smooth out overlying lines and wrinkles for results that last three-four months.* (Dysport is also a version of botulinum toxin type A treatment.)

Botox targets areas such as:

  • Frown lines
  • Lip lines
  • “Crow’s feet”
  • Forehead creases

The benefits of Botox

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there was a 797% rise in Botox procedures between 2000 and 2016, for a whopping 7,056,255 total treatments nationwide last year! Botox is popular for a reason, as it offers myriad benefits: it not only treats wrinkles and lines to give your appearance and self-confidence a boost, it can also stop and reduce sweating and is currently being tested to treat medical issues such as migraines and depression in some cases.

Many professionals today are turning to Botox to give them a leg up in their careers, and it’s an increasingly popular group activity for special occasions such as bridal and bachelorette parties, for couples, mother-daughter and BFF bonding dates.

When should you start Botox?

Just because you don’t think wrinkles are a problem yet, doesn’t mean you can’t reap the benefits of Botox! I recommend starting in your mid-20’s, just when those lines and wrinkles begin to appear when at rest, to help maintain a youthful appearance longer and ideally keep you from requiring as many cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures down the road. A little at a time for the long haul can help keep your skin looking fresh, preventing many wrinkles in the first place versus having to treat them later.

Who should administer Botox?

For the best results, always consult a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist for your Botox needs—not only for qualification reasons, but also for safety purposes. The FDA has recently found instances of doctors’ offices and medical clinics nationwide selling counterfeit versions of Botox, often purchased in order to increase profit margin. The potential contamination of these unregulated toxins puts patients’ lives at risk.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I took an oath of ethics and have the most stringent training, with an intimate understanding of anatomy, required to perform these procedures safely and effectively.

Contact us today to see how we can help freshen your look with Botox or other cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures.

[Disclaimer: Results are not guaranteed for all patients, as outcomes and experience will vary based on each unique, individual person.]

5 Lessons the Solar Eclipse of 2017 Teaches Us About Breast Augmentation https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/5-lessons-solar-eclipse-2017-teaches-us-about-breast-augmentation/ Fri, 18 Aug 2017 15:41:54 +0000 http://michael-burgdorf.amsystem.wpengine.com/?p=491 With the Solar Eclipse fast approaching, many are excited for this once-in-a-lifetime event. People are learning as much as they can about this phenomenon, buying special viewing glasses, and making arrangements so this will be an enjoyable and memorable event. Below are 5 lessons the solar eclipse can teach about breast augmentation in Nashville TN.
  1. Don’t let your large your Nashville TN breast implants act like an Eclipse

Before we get too far into this article, let’s get the jokes about large breast implants eclipsing our vision and how too large breasts can cause blindness and all that out of the way. However, when we look at this on a more serious note, some of these puns might actually be decent advice.

Just like staring at the eclipse for too long can damage your eyes, looking at enormously oversized implants can “hurt” our vision as well. When breast implants are too big for your body, they look ridiculously unnatural and damage your overall result. This type of “totality” (where all one notices are your breasts) may be just like the solar eclipse…short-lived and anticlimactic. You may enjoy the exaggerated results initially, but over time the excitement of it wears thin. While the solar eclipse will be a sight to see, it is definitely not how we want our normal days to be spent. Same can be said with oversized breast implants.

  1. Do Your Homework on breast augmentation surgery in Nashville, TN

When news of the solar eclipse was first released, special preparation began in earnest. Many began reading up on the subject and learned as much as there is to know about (including your Nashville, TN, plastic surgeon). Recently, a nurse in the operating room informed me about the NASA map where you can plug in your address and learn about the exact best time to view the eclipse. Special eclipse viewing glasses have been flying off the shelves as people ready themselves for the big event. The same is applicable when undergoing breast augmentation surgery in Nashville special preparation must be made.

It is advisable to do your homework, speak with your Nashville plastic surgeon, and learn all you can before undergoing your procedure. That includes researching your choices of implant types, shapes and sizes, visualizing anticipated results with before and after pictures, and meeting with surgeons. Just like many wouldn’t use anything but the NASA-approved viewing glasses, you wouldn’t want to trust your breasts to anybody but a board-certified Nashville, TN, plastic surgeon. Research can easily be performed by visiting websites like ours (www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com), talking with others who have personal experience undergoing breast augmentations and/or reading special reports or books on the subject, like our #1 Amazon Best seller: The Mommy Makeover: Restoring Your Body After Childbirth. We encourage all our potential patients to thoroughly do their homework.

  1. Logistical Preparation is a Must

Aside from the intellectual preparation needed, many will need to do logistical prep work as well. People have made special arrangements to be off from work to view the eclipse. You and/or your significant other might need to do the same for surgery. Obviously, if you don’t show up, you won’t have the surgery. But, it is also important to have someone available to help take care of you as you recover. This might mean logistics of scheduling time off from work, arranging childcare, scheduling meals in advance, or all of the above. A little prep work ahead of time is recommended from your award-winning plastic surgeon in Nashville, TN in order to prevent large logistical headaches after the fact.

2017 Solar Eclipse

  1. Special Instruments Are Needed

I mentioned above the special viewing glasses recommended to see the eclipse without damaging your eyes. Thankfully, with breast augmentation surgery, you won’t be responsible for obtaining the specialized instruments needed. But the lesson here is an important one.  Only choose a surgeon who uses appropriate, FDA-approved breast implants and not some plastic bag filled with canola oil (you’d be surprised what can pass for breast implants in unregulated tourists areas). Just like viewing the eclipse without the recommended glasses can lead to long-term damage, so too can accepting lesser quality materials being placed inside your body during breast augmentation surgery.

  1. Once in a Lifetime Event

Many tout this solar eclipse as a once-in-a-lifetime event, but in all reality, many variables exist in our lives and we don’t really know if that’s accurate or not. My young children may experience another when they are older, or they may not. Also, I just heard about a scientist who predicted three more eclipses in the next several years. The same may be true for breast augmentation surgery. While the idea of needing to replace breast implants every 10-15 years is only really applicable in lesser-used saline implants, the idea that one will never have to undergo breast surgery in her life is unpredictable. Many variables with the individual patient, like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, as well as others outside our immediate control like fashion trends exist to influence an individual’s desire to change her size and shape of her breasts. That being said, the current breast implants are manufactured with the idea that many women will NOT undergo additional breast surgery.

  1. Bonus: Viewing party may be fun.

Ok so we started with the jokes and we’ll end with the jokes. But the underlying message is still applicable: enjoy the results. While you may not have the full-blown breast augmentation viewing party like many are doing for the eclipse (although you’d be surprised how many like to show them off after their surgery), since this is an elective surgery, I do encourage all of my patients to take some time to enjoy their results. This may mean something as simple as buying a new bra or a bathing suit, or a special shirt that has been inappropriate or out of reach for many years. Or it may be something as extensive as a special trip to the beach or even a private viewing party with your significant other so as to enjoy the additional attention garnered because of the surgery.

Either way, by following the six lessons learned above by the solar eclipse, your breast augmentation with Nashville’s award-winning plastic surgeon can be successful and as life changing an event as this much anticipated celestial event of 2017.  If you desire further, out-of-this-world advice on breast augmentation in Nashville, TN, contact my office. If all the stars are aligning in your world and you are ready to move forward with surgery, schedule your private consultation.

The Sports Doctor showed interest in what Dr. Burgdorf had to say about athletes who pursue cosmetic surgery in Nashville – particularly male athletes. The number of men pursuing facelifts, liposuction, Botox, and other procedures has risen exponentially in recent years. Here are just a few of the ways that plastic surgery is changing the lives of countless men today.

4 Reasons That Male Plastic Surgery Is On The Rise,
According To Nashville, TN, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Burgdorf

male liposuction costReason #1 for men’s plastic surgery – Athletic Appearance

Music City Plastic Surgery sees numerous athletes – men and women alike – who just can’t seem to get that problem spot to go away. They’ve done the fitness regimen and kept themselves healthy, but they need help with small stubborn areas. That’s where liposuction comes in.

According to top plastic surgeons in Nashville TN, and Dr. Burgdorf the idea of using liposuction for weight loss is a misperception. Liposuction at his Nashville, TN, plastic surgery office won’t replace exercise and a healthy diet. On the contrary, this procedure works best on men and women who have already put in the work to be in shape.

Athletes and men who still struggle with love handles, fat under the chin, or other specific areas are typically strong candidates for liposuction and other physical improvement procedures at Dr. Burgdorf’s plastic surgery office near Nashville, TN.

plastic surgery men nashvilleReason #2 – Corporate Advancement

Someone who puts in long evenings or who consistently wakes up early to be the first in the office may end up looking more tired than everyone else. As time passes, the years of hard work can leave you looking older than you really are. That can eventually affect your job.

An unfortunate reality in today’s fast-paced corporate world is that age matters. To avoid being passed over for promotion in favor of someone younger-looking, many men these days are taking advantage of plastic surgery for men including Botox, facelifts, chemical peels, and other procedures to help them retain a natural-looking, younger appearance that matches their energy and motivation.

Reason #3 – Family Life

10 Tips for Easing Back into the School Year https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/10-tips-easing-back-school-year/ Tue, 01 Aug 2017 21:29:43 +0000 http://michael-burgdorf.amsystem.wpengine.com/?p=481 As the summer winds down and the school year looms ahead, it can be a stressful time for parents and kids alike. Unlike the refreshing sensation of diving into a crisp pool during the summertime, jumping right back into a regular routine after an extended break can be an abrupt jolt to the system.

Follow these 10 tips to painlessly ease back into your school-year routine:

1. Set a schedule
At least two weeks before class starts, get your family back on a regular schedule of waking up early in the morning and going to bed at a regular bedtime.

2. Create a morning routine checklist
If your crew has trouble getting out the door and arriving to class on time, map out your ideal morning routine and practice executing it prior to the first day of school.

3. Meet your teacher
The common practice of students meeting new teachers before the school year starts is a great opportunity for parents, too. Come prepared to ask questions and collect their preferred contact information – you’ll be ahead of the game!

4. Make back-to-school shopping a family affair
After you’ve taken an inventory of your existing supplies and made a budget for new ones, involve your kids in back-to-school shopping to get their brains in gear for the school year.

5. Reconnect with school friends
Even if your kids already have friends in class, sometimes the summer months can shake things up. Set up playdates with a few schoolmates to keep them connected during the break, ensuring they know a few friendly faces on the first day for added confidence.

6. Set up a family calendar
Before school-year schedules begin, synchronize your family calendar! Use a digital calendar app across all of your devices to track everyone’s activities and commitments in one place.

7. Create an engaging home workspace
Set your child up for a successful year by creating a dedicated space for completing their schoolwork. Whether it’s a quiet area for writing or a flexible maker space for projects, ensure it’s a comfortable and engaging environment that inspires achievement.

8. Assign summertime family “projects”
Start getting your family back into the school-year mindset by assigning fun “projects” to complete, either as a group or individually. Ideas include photo albums or scrapbooks, simple home-improvement tasks (with adult supervision) or even gardening. Model good behavior by working on your own projects while your kids focus on theirs.

9. Set school-year goals
The pursuit of goals plays a significant role in our overall happiness and wellbeing. To help your kids eagerly anticipate the challenge of a new year and drive their own academic performance, help them set realistic goals and work to achieve them.

10. Return to a reading routine
While it’s ideal for kids to continue a healthy reading habit all summer long, if your children haven’t cracked a book lately, there’s still time to catch up! Encourage reading for fun to shake off the cobwebs and make the transition back to a learning mindset a little easier.

Here’s to a successful school year and your family’s continued health and happiness!

Desperately in need of a digital detox? Follow these 5 rules https://www.musiccityplasticsurgery.com/digital-detox-follow-5-rules/ Sat, 15 Jul 2017 15:51:09 +0000 http://michael-burgdorf.amsystem.wpengine.com/?p=394 Digital devices are so ingrained in our culture that sometimes it’s hard to remember life without them. What did we do in waiting rooms or on public transportation without smart phones? How did children survive all those family road trips without DVD players and tablets?

Too much screen time has a significant negative impact on our wellbeing, whether we realize it or not. Not only is it linked to speech delay in young children, it has been found to negatively affect quality of sleep, personal relationships, stress levels and even our physical health.

If it’s time for a digital detox in your life, follow these five rules to improve the health, happiness and wellbeing of your whole family:

Rule #1: Face time only during family time

(No, not that kind of FaceTime.) Reclaim quality time with your family by banning all handheld devices during meals, movie nights or other family outings.

Strategy: Start with collecting everyone’s devices during meal times and storing them in a designated drawer (or bag when on the go), and build up to device-free weekends and holidays. To incentivize unwilling kids, allow them to choose their favorite food or group activity. Don’t forget to wear a wristwatch!

Rule #2: Set a curfew for handheld devices

Screen time before bed is associated with poor sleep quality and quantity, so set a cutoff time for using handheld devices in your home.

Strategy: Choose a time of day that works for your family and stick to it! Invest in a traditional alarm clock for your bedroom and store your phone or tablet elsewhere at night, such as in a closet or in that designated device drawer.

Rule #3: Banish “binge-watching”

Binge-watching TV can also have adverse effects on our health, so set a limit on TV screen time.

Strategy: Encourage your family to participate in other, healthier habits like reading, exercise, or even discovering new hobbies.

Rule #4: Break up with social media

If you find yourself constantly checking social media apps in a loop, you’re not alone. Though your brain craves the reward, it actually results in more stress and anxiety in adults and young people alike. Break free of the digital dopamine cycle by designating a daily window of time for checking social media, then building up to entire social-media-free periods.

Strategy: Remove social media apps from your phone. You can still check in on your desktop or laptop computer, but it’s going to take a lot more effort!

Rule #5: What happens at work stays at work

Time spent checking email at home is time not spent interacting with your children or partner. If you can make a rule of no work communications outside working hours, great – if that’s an unreasonable goal, limit checks to a specific window of time.

Strategy: Remove all push notifications from your handheld devices and set new response time expectations for colleagues and clients.

To get the whole family on board with the digital detox, remember to:

  • Always set a good example for your children in how you interact with devices.
  • Replace screen time with even more enjoyable experiences, such as games, outdoor activities or community events.
  • Explain to your kids why you made the decision – this will help them follow through and hopefully develop their own healthy relationship with digital media.

It will be hard to give up these habits at first, but you’ll soon find a refreshing new sense of freedom!
